About Us

COPUS weaves together poetry, theatre, jazz and philosophy to engage the audience in social reflection.

COPUS is a rap/jazz fusion, poet/composer collaboration founded by poet/spoken word artist Royal Kent and composer/pianist Wendy Loomis. The ensemble presents conscious lyrics and beautiful melodies for the discerning listener.

COPUS has performed at unique and often times legendary, theatres, and festivals throughout the U.S. including such prestigious venues/events as the San Francisco Jazz Center, Greenwich Village's The Bitter End, Feinstein's 54 Below in Manhattan, The World Bank in Washington DC, Cutting Edge Music Festival in New Orleans. Atlanta's annual Springfest and the WordXWord Festival in the great town of Pittsfield, MA.

In 2018/2019 COPUS won 'best spoken word' designation by Clouzine International Music Awards, a nomination for 'best jazz' by Hollywood Music in Media Awards, and was on the GRAMMY ballot for 'best rap song'. Releases include 'We All Bleed Red', 'Aspects', 'Later Than You Think', 'Jah Provide' and 'The Fool'.

COPUS could become legendary if given the opportunity to thrive!” -Michael Allison, Music Reviewer for MusicDish.com
